Memorable Movie Moments…

This week’s memorable movie moment takes us back to the first sequel to Jurassic Park, The Lost World (1997). Also based on the preceding novel by Michael Crichton, the film is the only Jurassic Park sequel to be directed by Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan, Bridge of Spies), although he has served as executive producer on JP3 (2001) and Jurassic World (2015). In fact The Lost World is the only sequel that Spielberg has opted to direct, outside of the Indiana Jones series. It was also his first time back to film after he took a leave of absence when Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List were completed and became box office hits both in the same year. Author Michael Crichton had titled the book after the famous novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which also features a mysterious island with dinosaurs and other strange phenomena.

The Lost World brought back original actor Jeff Goldblum (Independence Day, The Grand Budapest Hotel) as Dr. Ian Malcolm, who is joined by an all new cast of characters, including Oscar-winner Julianne Moore (Hannibal, Crazy Stupid Love), Pete Postlethwaite (Inception, The Town), Vince Vaughn (Old School, Wedding Crashers), Arliss Howard (Full Metal Jacket, Moneyball), Peter Stormare (Armageddon, Minority Report), Vanessa Lee Chester (A Little Princess, Harriet the Spy), and acclaimed British actor Richard Attenborough (The Great Escape, Elizabeth). ‘Independence Day 2: Resurgence’ Now Playing In Theaters Nationwide

The highly anticipated sequel to director Roland Emmerich‘s 1996 blockbuster Independence Day 2: Resurgence is now playing in theaters nationwide. Despite a failed effort to bring back Will Smith, who played one of the lead roles in the original film, the new sequel has gained much anticipation from fans of the original, who no doubt are excited to see veteran actors Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Bill Pullman (Spaceballs, While You Were Sleeping) reunite onscreen to fight aliens! Also returning from the original film are actors Vivica A. Fox (Juwanna Man, Kill Bill: Vol 1), Brent Spiner (The Aviator, Star Trek: The Next Generation), and Judd Hirsch (Ordinary People, A Beautiful Mind), who are joined by new lead Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Paranoia), and actors Jessie T. Usher (When The Game Stands Tall, Survivor’s Remorse), Joey King (Crazy Stupid Love, The Conjuring), Maika Monroe (Labor Day, It Follows), Sela Ward (The Day After Tomorrow, Gone Girl), and William Fichtner (Armageddon, Black Hawk Down). Despite popularity among fans, the film has not received good reviews from critics, who have called it “boring” and “loaded down with ’90s cheesiness.” Not sure how audiences will react or if they will agree with the critics, but I guess we’ll find out this weekend. Enjoy!

New Coen Brothers Comedy ‘Hail Caesar!’ Opening In Theaters February 5th

The Coen Brothers are finally back on the big screen with a new comedy titled Hail Caesar!. Starring Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Iron Man 2), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Foxcatcher), Ralph Fiennes (The Constant Gardener, Spectre), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street, Moneyball) and Coen regulars Tilda Swinton (Burn After Reading, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men, Men In Black 3), and George Clooney (Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Ocean’s Eleven), the film follows a Hollywood ‘fixer’ who works for Capital Records in the 1950s and must deal with the disappearance of the studio’s biggest star before an upcoming release is ruined by the schemers behind the kidnapping. The film was co-written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen (in their usual fashion), and will be their first project together since 2013’s Oscar-nominated drama Inside Llewyn Davis with Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Carey Mulligan (Drive, The Great Gatsby), although they have written several films since then, including director Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies. The trailer for Hail Caesar! is available here on MADE. Look for it in theaters this February 5th.

First Trailer For ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Now Available

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally opening in theaters this week, movie-goers are starting to look to the New Year to get their blockbuster fix. Over the last week we have seen new, full-length trailers for Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and X-Men: Apocalypse, which will bring the comic-movie circuit back to life after the Star Wars bubble finally bursts. This week, however, we have a new trailer for another sequel we have been keeping our eyes on, in the form of Independence Day: Resurgence. Original ID director Roland Emmerich (The Day After Tomorrow, 2012) is back with returning veteran actors Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Bill Pullman (Spaceballs, Lake Placid), Vivica A. Fox (Juwanna Mann, Kill Bill Vol. 1), and Oscar-winner Judd Hirsch (Ordinary People, A Beautiful Mind), leading a new generation of actors including Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Paranoia), Joey King (Crazy Stupid Love, The Conjuring), Maika Monroe (Labor Day, It Follows), and William Fichtner (Heat, Black Hawk Down). Picking up 20 years after the events of the original film, we find scientist David Levinson (Goldblum) and former President James Whitmore (Pullman) facing a new insurgence of alien visitors that will test the world’s new defense systems that were developed using the technology of the original invaders. Unfortunately for fans of the original, Will Smith will not be reprising his role, and instead the plot will focus on a new-generation fighter pilot (played by Hemsworth) named Morrison, but other than that the rest of the story looks (on the surface) pretty legitimate. As always, we’ll have to wait for the final product to know for sure. Stay tuned for further updates.

24th James Bond Film ‘Spectre’ Now Playing In Theaters Nationwide

Fans of the James Bond film franchise will once again get to see Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) grace the screen as the infamous British Secret Service agent. Spectre is the first release in the series since 2012’s Skyfall, and is once again being directed by Oscar-winning Skyfall and American Beauty director Sam Mendes. Spectre will see the character of Bond return to his roots, as he embarks on a mission to uncover the top secret criminal organization known as SPECTRE, while M fights struggles to keep the British government from dismantling the Secret Service. This is the same criminal organization that the character faced in the Sean Connery films, and first appeared in the Bond novels by author Ian Fleming. Skyfall writers John Logan, Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade penned the script for the new film with screenwriter Jez Butterworth (Get On Up, Edge of Tomorrow). Daniel Craig will be returning to reprise the role of Bond in his fourth appearance as the character, and this may very well be the last time fans have an opportunity to see Craig in the role on the big screen, as he has stated several times that he may not return for a fifth film. Returning to the supporting cast are actors Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient, The Constant Gardener), Ben Whishaw (I’m Not There, Cloud Atlas), and Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), with newcomers Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Big Eyes), Lea Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Color, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded, The Passion of the Christ), and Dave Bautista (Riddick, Guardians of the Galaxy). The trailer is available here on MADE. Also opening this weekend are the biographical dramas Trumbo and Spotlight, and the return of Charlie Brown and the Peanuts crew in the new 3D-animated feature The Peanuts Movie. Enjoy the weekend!

Director Judd Apatow’s ‘Trainwreck’ With Amy Schumer Now Playing

The new comedy from director Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, Pineapple Express), Trainwreck, is now playing in theaters. Actors Bill Hader (SuperBad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street, The Gambler), and Tilda Swinton (Burn After Reading, The Grand Budapest Hotel) make up the supporting cast, plus a special appearance by NBA star Lebron James. Watch The New Trailer For Upcoming Bond Film ‘Spectre’ With Daniel Craig

The new trailer for the upcoming 24th installment in the James Bond franchise, titled Spectre, debuted during Game 3 of the 2015 NBA Playoffs this week. Once again starring Daniel Craig (Road to Perdition, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) in the title role, the film will bring Craig’s Bond story full circle as he finally comes face-to-face with the secret organization he has been hunting since his first outing in Casino Royale. If you’re not familiar with the series history, let me clue-you-in. In author Ian Fleming‘s original Bond novels, and the original Sean Connery films in the 1960s, Bond was always faced with a scheme carried out by a different member of the SPECTRE organization, whose leader was revealed as Ernst Stavro Blofeld in You Only Live Twice (1967), and who remained Bond’s primary nemesis until Connery’s last series appearance in Diamonds Are Forever (1971). The character and organization essentially disappeared from the series after Roger Moore took over the part for Live and Let Die (1973). The new film, Spectre, will now bring Bond back to his roots, as the new plot finds him tracking the scope of the organization’s reach in Britain’s political system while M struggles to keep the secret service from being dismantled. Returning to reprise their roles from Skyfall are actors Ralph Fiennes (The Constant Gardener, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), and Ben Whishaw (I’m Not There, Cloud Atlas), along with new cast members Dave Bautista (Riddick, Guardians of the Galaxy), Monica Bellucci (Malena, The Matrix Reloaded), Lea Seydoux (Inglorious Basterds, Blue Is The Warmest Color), and Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Big Eyes). Skyfall director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) is returning to direct the new film from a screenplay by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator), and writing-team Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (The World is Not Enough, Die Another Day). The movie is due out in theaters this November. Enjoy the trailer!

Ryan Gosling’s Directorial Debut ‘Lost River’ Will See Limited (Extremely Limited) Release This Weekend

Ryan Gosling will see his directorial debut open in just 3 theaters this weekend. His new film, Lost River, has received nothing but negative reviews from critics, although it was shown last year at the Cannes Film Festival in France, and again just a few weeks ago at SXSW Festival. Working from his own screenplay, Gosling tells the story of a mother in a fairy-tale future who must venture into a dark, deserted underworld that now rests below ours in order to save her sons and hold her family together. Despite all of the harsh criticism, Gosling did manage to put together a pretty impressive ensemble to bring his fantasy to life, including Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, Drive), Iain De Caestecker (Not Another Happy Ending, Filth), Saoirse Ronan (Hanna, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Matt Smith (Doctor Who, Womb), Ben Mendelsohn (Killing Them Softly, The Dark Knight Rises), and Eva Mendes (Training Day, 2 Fast 2 Furious). Unfortunately most of us won’t be able to see this one on a big screen release, but you can still see the trailer here on MADE! Enjoy!

Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007.

We finally have something to call the upcoming James Bond installment other than “Bond 24”. Eon Productions Ltd recently announced that the new film would bring the Bond franchise back full circle with the title S.P.E.C.T.R.E., the name of the organization Bond originally battled in author Ian Fleming‘s original novels. The first Bond film, Dr. No (1962), was the first to introduce the organization as Bond’s primary antagonist, and Sean Connery’s Bond films would continue with Fleming’s direct material until Roger Moore took over with Live and Let Die in 1973. S.P.E.C.T.R.E.‘s plot will follow Bond and M (played by Daniel Craig and Ralph Fiennes respectively) as they fight to keep the British Secret Service from being destroyed from within by the schemes of a mysterious organization. S.P.E.C.T.R.E. stands for Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion. The cast will once again feature Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris as Q and Moneypenny, as well as Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Inglorious Basterds), Dave Bautista (Riddick, Guardians of the Galaxy), Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded, The Whistleblower), and Lea Seydoux (Blue Is The Warmest Color, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Skyfall director Sam Mendes will return to direct and the film has been scheduled for release in November 2015. Stay tuned.
