Minneapolis’ own Muja Messiah recently dropped his project God Kissed It The Devil Missed It for all of our listening pleasure. Muja took to Twitter earlier today to release a new video for his track “Pocket Full of Slave Owners” with support from Brother Ali and Boots Riley. A legendary trio, Muja, Boots & Brother Ali all go in over the Mike The Martyr produced record. Shot in the Bay Area, the sunny weather is a warm welcome to those stuck in Minnesota’s increasingly cold winter. “Pocket Full of Slave Owners” is filled with substance that will have you pausing, rewinding and re-thinking how America has systematically imprisoned all of us. A solid visual from one of Minneapolis’ top MCs, let alone the supporting verses from two other titans of Hip Hop. If you haven’t check out God Kissed It The Devil Missed It, you should do that right after checking out the visual for “Pocket Full of Slave Owners” above.

As Rhymesayer’s annual Soundset Music Festival continues to grow year after year, it’s awesome to still be able to see the forefathers rocking the stage along with some of our other favorites. We remember when they moved the festival to the now demolished Metrodome, it’s pretty amazing how fast it’s grown. Brother Ali has always held it down and continues to do so, peep his Nardwuar interview above as we get set for this year’s Soundset Festival.
Brother Ali has a featured live performance special that will be aired on TPT this Thursday (Halloween). The TPT special will also include a sit down conversation with Dessa, whom will be the host. If you are busy on Halloween, they will also air the performance on November 3rd, at 10pm.
The last few years I have been listening to Sway In The Morning, and for some reason thought of this video today. I haven’t seen this video in a while and figured it needed some digging up. Eyedea and Slug trade versus on Sway’s Wakeup Show from a few years back, when the Minneapolis Hip-Hop scene was beginning to boom. The two go completely off the top for nearly 10mn, and develop a nice dual threat as they feed off one another’s wordplay. From that day on, Sway then respected the MPLS Hip-Hop scene.
Last year I was riding into work and caught all 5 fingers of death from Brother Ali; needless to say I was late that day. Ali absolutely destroyed all 5 fingers of death, and blew away everyone in the studio. To this day I am not sure anyone made it look that easy. Watch as brother Ali spits through it like its breakfast.

There is no need to talk about who this man is. If you are a fan of hip-hop, you damn well know who Mr. Ali is. This tape was released just a few days ago, and god damn does it bump. Let the tunes ride out, and simply vibe to the pure genius behind the lyrics.
