With Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally opening in theaters this week, movie-goers are starting to look to the New Year to get their blockbuster fix. Over the last week we have seen new, full-length trailers for Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and X-Men: Apocalypse, which will bring the comic-movie circuit back to life after the Star Wars bubble finally bursts. This week, however, we have a new trailer for another sequel we have been keeping our eyes on, in the form of Independence Day: Resurgence. Original ID director Roland Emmerich (The Day After Tomorrow, 2012) is back with returning veteran actors Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Bill Pullman (Spaceballs, Lake Placid), Vivica A. Fox (Juwanna Mann, Kill Bill Vol. 1), and Oscar-winner Judd Hirsch (Ordinary People, A Beautiful Mind), leading a new generation of actors including Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Paranoia), Joey King (Crazy Stupid Love, The Conjuring), Maika Monroe (Labor Day, It Follows), and William Fichtner (Heat, Black Hawk Down). The next installment in the Terminator series will not only bring back Arnold Schwarzenegger as the futuristic cyborg killer, it will also feature a new all-star cast including Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, and J.K. Simmons, and now Doctor Who regular Matt Smith and Marine veteran turned bodybuilder Aaron Williamson will also be joining the cast. Smith’s role is still unknown at this point, but Williamson, who has lent a hand on numerous Hollywood projects like The Butler and Django Unchained, will also take a role as a T-800 cyborg just like Schwarzenegger. The official plot of the movie is still being kept under-wraps, but according to a recent article from HitFix it may involve a double parallel where we see the original story-line from James Cameron’s 1984 blockbuster as well as the new story playing out in the same time and place, so a bit like Back to the Future: Part 2 where you have two Marty’s with two objectives. The film will also include Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Jai Courtney (A Good Day To Die Hard) in the roles of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese, the two protagonists of the original movie, and will be penned by Laeta Kalogridis (Alexander, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Dracula 2000, Drive Angry). Director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, The Sopranos) is already in the process of shooting the film, and Paramount has scheduled the release for July 2015.
Location: 509 1st Avenue NE, Minneapolis When: Saturday, August 3rd from 5PM-10:30PM (Rain or Shine)
The Northeast section of Minneapolis has slowly turned into one of the city’s most popular areas for food, local brew, and street festivals. Tomorrow, August 3rd; marks the 4th annual Red Stag Block Party which will go down at the Red Stag Supperclub on 1st Ave. The event will feature live music (more about that later), local artisans, local brew, and of course local eats. The lineup is rather stacked as local favorite Greg Grease will take the stage along with Eleganza, Actual Wolf, Christian Fritz and many more. As if that wasn’t enough Familia skate shop will be hosting entertainment alongside the North Star Roller Girls. Local sponsors include Grain Belt, Schell’s, City Pages, Key North & Thrifty Hipster just to name a few and the fest is free to enter; why wouldn’t you go? If you don’t have anything better to do you should definitely get on over Northeast (yes say it like that), it should be a good time.
