New Trailers Available For Upcoming Sequels ‘Blade Runner 2049’ and ‘Alien: Covenant’

This year, writer, director, and producer Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Hannibal) will see two of his most famous films back on big screens nationwide in the form of the new sequels Alien: Covenant and Blade Runner 2049. The original films Alien (1979) and Blade Runner (1982) are two of Scott’s most renowned films, and this year, movie-goers will get the chance to see modernized takes on both films, which have developed huge followings over the years.

Scott personally got back behind the camera to direct Alien: Covenant. Serving as both a sequel to Prometheus (2012) and a prequel to the original Alien, Alien: Covenant follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant as they discover a seemingly unknown paradise in deep space. As they begin to explore, however, they quickly uncover a dark and dangerous world, inhabited only by David, the synthetic survivor from the Prometheus expedition, who forces the crew to attempt a fast, and daring escape. New Trailer For X-Men Sequel ‘Logan’ Leaves Future of Series in Question

A new trailer has just been released for the new X-Men sequel/independent-stand-alone feature Logan, once again starring Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables, Prisoners) as the Wolverine. This may very well be Jackson’s last outing with the character. Logan appears to take place in a distant, grim-looking future, where his mutation is failing and he plays guardian for Charles Xavier, now suffering from Alzheimers Disease. While the two cope with the loss of the mutants and the X-Men, Wolverine must battle a corporate conglomerate whose only goal seems to be to destroy the world. Just as the two mutants reach the verge of losing hope, they discover a young girl, or clone, who possesses Logan’s same gift of regeneration, and who may very-well-be their only hope of defeating Essex.

Patrick Stewart reprises his role as Charles Xavier, joining Jackman under the direction of The Wolverine director James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma). Mangold assisted in writing the project with screenwriters David James Kelly and Michael Green (Alien: Covenant, Blade Runner 2049), both newcomers to the X-Men movie universe. Boyd Holbrook (Milk, Gone Girl), Stephan Merchant (Hall Pass, The Big Bang Theory), Richard E. Grant (Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Corpse Bride), and Dafne Keen (The Refugees) all appear in the supporting cast. Sadly, no other familiar faces in terms of X-Men or mutants in general are expected to be seen in the film. Continue reading

Upcoming ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel Gets Release Date From Warner Bros.

bladerunner

Oscar-winner Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator) is currently serving as producer for the upcoming sequel to his critically-acclaimed 1982 sci-fi thriller Blade Runner. The new film will be directed by Dennis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario) and will feature original star Harrison Ford (The Fugitive, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), reprising his role as Rick Deckard, alongside newcomer Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Big Short). The original Blade Runner took place in 2019 Los Angeles, a now dark and desperate metropolis that’s overrun with crime and urban decay. The Blade Runners are responsible for assassinating ‘replicants,’ androids made to look like humans but displaying no sign of human emotion. Rick Deckard comes in when he is assigned to track down four replicants responsible for a mutiny on the Off World colony, but as he tracks them down, he encounters another replicant, Rachel, that displays human emotion, and throws Deckard into a spiral of uncertainty as he continues to pursue the leader of the replicant mutineers. The original film was based on the novel by Philip K. Dick and was adapted for the screen by Scott and Hampton Fancher (The Mighty Quinn, The Minus Man). So far it looks Fancher will return to co-write the new film with Scott and screenwriter Michael Green (Green Lantern, Gotham). Warner Bros. just announced this week that the film will be scheduled for release on January 12th, 2018. Stay tuned for more updates.

As of today, Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is now playing in theaters nationwide, and if you haven’t already secured a ticket, you might have to wait at least a week or two before braving the storm of people waiting in line out the door. Director JJ Abrams (Mission Impossible 3, Super 8) took leave of his Star Trek obligations in order to direct the film, which reunites original stars Mark Hamill (Commander Hamilton, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back), Harrison Ford (Blade Runner, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc), and Carrie Fisher (Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, The Blues Brothers) with an all new generation of actors, led by Daisy Ridley (Blue Season, Scrawl), John Boyega (Junkhearts, Imperial Dreams), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, A Most Violent Year), Domhnall Gleeson (Unbroken, Ex Machina), Adam Driver (While We’re Young, This Is Where I Leave You), and Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey). The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi Oscar-winning screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan (The Big Chill, The Accidental Tourist) worked on the new project’s script with director Abrams and fellow Oscar-winner Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3), about a new threat to peace and justice in the galaxy that occurs 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi concluded. Little more needs be said; all I ask is that you not be an asshole and spoil the plot for everybody in ear-shot of your conversations! Enjoy.

First Trailer For ‘Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend’ Now Available

Netflix has slowly been upping its game in the home entertainment circuit ever since House of Cards became nearly as popular as HBO’s Game of Thrones. Now they are stepping up once again, this time with a sequel to 2000’s four-time Oscar winning epic Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, expected to be available on Netflix this February. The new film is subtitled The Green Legend and, like the original, is based on an original novel by author Du Lu Wang. Returning from the original film is actress Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies, Memoirs of a Geisha), who leads a whole new cast that features Donnie Yen (Blade 2, Hero), Harry Shum Jr. (Glee, White Frog), Jason Scott Lee (The Jungle Book, Balls of Fury), Eugenia Yuan (The Drummer, Shanghai Hotel), and Juju Chan (Unconditional Love, Fist of the Dragon) in a screenplay by John Fusco (Young Guns, Hidalgo). The first trailer, which is featured above, was just released this week. I’m not really sure what they had in mind with the techno version of CCR’s Bad Moon Rising playing in the back drop, but the visual effects and fight-scene choreography look pretty awesome. We’ll keep you posted on upcoming details.

Director Spike Lee’s New Drama ‘Chi-Raq’ Opening In Theaters Today

Director Spike Lee‘s update of Aristophanes’ play Lysistrata set in the violent streets of modern-day Chicago titled Chi-Raq is opening in theaters today. Set primarily in Chicago’s Southside, the film utilizes modern gang violence to tell Aristophanes’ tale of a group of women who decide to keep sex from their male counterparts in order to encourage them to stop the street violence that is destroying their homes and families. Lee adapted the screenplay with writer Kevin Willmott (The Battle for Bunker Hill, Jayhawkers), which features actors Nick Cannon (Bobby, Day of the Dead), Teyonah Parris (How Do You Know, They Came Together), Wesley Snipes (Blade, Demolition Man), Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers, Unbreakable), John Cusack (The Raven, Hot Tub Time Machine), and Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls, Lullaby). For Hudson, the film carries a unique weight: she has lost three family members to the gun-violence dividing the streets of Chicago. Comedy veteran Dave Chappelle (The Chappelle Show, The Nutty Professor) is also expected to make an appearance. The trailer is here on MADE; check it out in theaters today.

New Trailer For ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Features First Appearance Of Harrison Ford And Chewbacca

Back during the Holiday 2014 season director J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Super 8) released a teaser trailer for his upcoming and long-awaited sequel to Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now with production well underway and the Christmas 2015 release date slowly (but surely) approaching, Abrams has graced us with a new trailer, revealing some impressive cinematic backdrops linking this sequel to George Lucas‘ original series, and bringing back some familiar series-faces to the screen. Making cameo’s in the new trailer is the droid, R2-D2 (who has appeared in every Star Wars film since the original in 1977), and Han Solo and his Wookie companion, Chewbacca, portrayed once again by Harrison Ford (Blade Runner, Clear and Present Danger) and Peter Mayhew (Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back). Actor Kenny Baker (The Elephant Man, Time Bandits) is also back to play R2-D2, along with Mark Hamill (Slipstream, Midnight Ride), Carrie Fisher (The Blues Brothers, When Harry Met Sally), and Anthony Daniels (Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith). Abrams co-wrote the new film with screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Bodyguard) for Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm Ltd. Fans will have to wait until December 18th, but I’m sure there will be plenty of trailers released before then to appease their appetites!

Director Denis Villeneuve In Talks To Helm ‘Blade Runner 2’ With Harrison Ford

runner

Alcon Entertainment recently announced that director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Enemy) is in talks to helm their upcoming project Blade Runner 2, with original Blade Runner screenwriter Hampton Fincher and new team-member Michael Green (Everwood, The Green Lantern) penning the script. Nothing as far as plot details have been confirmed, but the writers have hinted that the story will take place severals decades following the original story, which makes sense seeing as Harrison Ford (Star Wars, The Fugitive) has agreed to reprise his role of Rick Deckard. This all means that original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Exodus: Gods and Kings) will not be working behind the camera on this new film, but will still serve as producer. The film is scheduled to begin filming in summer 2016. If you haven’t seen the original Blade Runner, you can check it out in two formats: the original theatrical release, and/or Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner: The Director’s Cut, the latter of which is geared more towards Scott’s original intent for the film. Stay tuned for further updates.
