New Documentary ‘A Brave Heart’ Now Playing In Theaters

A new documentary called A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story opening in theaters across the country today. The film has been featured at the SXSW Film Festival, the Newport Beach Film Festival and the Lower East Side Film Festival, receiving critical acclaim from fans and critics alike, and securing awards at each festival. A Brave Heart tells the story of Lizzie Velasquez, who has an extremely rare condition that doesn’t allow her body to properly store fat. Lizzie was termed the World’s Ugliest Woman at the age of 17, when an unknown YouTube subscriber uploaded a video of her and set off a storm of social media comments, some going so far as to suggest that she kill herself and “do society a favor”. Lizzie was suddenly faced with a choice: run and hide, or stand and fight. Since the video was uploaded, Lizzie has become a worldwide icon against bullying and has given herself a mission of empowering a more positive online environment for all. The film was scripted by documentary writer/producer Michael Campo (Child 31, The Human Experience) and will be the directorial debut for producer/marketing specialist Sara Hirsh Bordo. It features interviews from Lizzie, herself, as well as others like sociology professor Robert Faris (PhD) and Rep. Linda Sanchez (38th District). The trailer is available here on MADE. Enjoy the weekend!

New Trailer For ‘Suicide Squad’ Revealed At Comic-Con

A new trailer for the highly anticipated Suicide Squad movie was revealed at Comic-Con this year. Featuring an all-star cast, including Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus) as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney (Divergent, A Good Day To Die Hard), Scott Eastwood (Fury, The Longest Ride), Will Smith (Independence Day, Men in Black), Joel Kinneman (Safe House, RoboCop), and Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers, Joe Dirt), the film follows a group of criminals (insane criminals at that) that are recruited by the government to act as a special operations unit in exchange for commuted prison sentences. Two other big names in the DC Comic world will also appear in the film: Ben Affleck will bring his new Batman character from the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice to the film, and Oscar-winner Jared Leto will take up the role of the Joker, who you will see in the last few seconds of the trailer. Enjoy, and stay tuned for further news. Suicide Squad is expected in theaters in August 2016.

This week Academy Award-winning musician-turned-actor Jared Leto (Requiem For A Dream, Dallas Buyers Club) was seen in a new photo from director David Ayer’s Twitter account. The photo displays Leto’s Joker make-up for the upcoming Suicide Squad, due out in theaters in August 2016, while simultaneously celebrating the 75th anniversary of the character’s first appearance. Writer/director David Ayer (End of Watch, Fury) will be working from his own script adaptation of Ross Andru, Robert Kanigher, and John Ostrander’s DC Comics series. Joining Leto in the cast line-up are actors Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus), Jai Courtney (The Water Diviner, Terminator Genisys), Will Smith (Independence Day, Men in Black), Joel Kinneman (Safe House, RoboCop), and Viola Davis (The Help, Prisoners). Actor/rapper Common (Now You See Me, Selma), Scott Eastwood (Invictus, The Longest Ride), Jessie Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland), and Adam Beach (Joe Dirt, Flags of our Fathers) are also expected to make appearances in the film. The plot details are minute but the general outline from the comics is that the Suicide Squad is a group of super-villains put together by a government agency tasked with carrying out dangerous missions in exchange for shorter prison sentences. Principle photography is currently underway, so we should see a teaser trailer coming out pretty soon. Follow the link below to see the tweeted photo from director Ayer.

Check Out The New Trailer For ‘Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser’

We first heard about comedian David Spade‘s upcoming sequel to his 2001 original hit back in the fall, and now with summer quickly approaching we have a new sequel to appease our curiosity! The new sequel, titled Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, is being directed by original co-writer Fred Wolf (Strange Wilderness, The House Bunny) and was scripted by Spade (Tommy Boy, Grown Ups), himself, who also starred and co-wrote the original film. This time out we find Joe caught in a time warp that puts him on yet another epic quest across land (and time) to find the family he had just discovered at the conclusion of the first film. Returning to reprise their roles from the original are actors Brittany Daniel (White Chicks, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia), Golden Globe-nominee Adam Beach (Windtalkers, Flags of our Fathers), and Academy Award-winner Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter, Catch Me If You Can), plus a whole new ensemble of characters including Patrick Warburton (Family Guy, Ted) and Susie Abromeit (Sex Drive, Battle Los Angeles). Fans, however, will not likely be seeing this one show on the big screen; part of the deal in financing/making the film was that Spade would exclusively release it on the website Krackle, even though Happy Madison Productions is lending a hand in the production. So come July 16th you’ll have to go onto Krackle to see the new movie. For now, here’s the first trailer…Enjoy!

New Sci-Fi Drama ‘Ex Machina’ Opening In Theaters April 10th, 2015

Writer/directorAlex Garland‘s upcoming sci-fi drama, Ex Machina, will see a limited release this April 10th. This will be the directorial debut for Garland, who is known for penning such projects as The Beach and 28 Days Later, but after seeing the trailer I don’t think that’s going to be a problem that will affect the film’s popularity among movie-goers. Starring Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Unbroken), Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair, Son of a Gun), and Golden Globe nominee Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, A Most Violent Year), the film follows a young programmer who wins the chance to visit his CEO’s private retreat, only to find he has secretly been selected to participate in a strange experiment involving artificial intelligence and the beautiful robot that contains it. This one definitely looks like a pretty crazy mind-fuck, so I would definitely consider putting this on the Must-See list, if not for the story but for the special effects you can see in the trailer. You can see the trailer one more time here on MADE, then be sure to see this one while it’s still on the big screen.

Denny Tedesco’s 2008 Documentary ‘The Wrecking Crew’ Getting New Release This March

Director Denny Tedesco‘s The Wrecking Crew was originally released at SXSW in March 2008, followed by the Nashville Film and Seattle International Film Festival. The film then saw various releases at festivals around the world following the rest of 2008 and into 2009, but never actually saw a mass release for reasons unknown, although the unofficial assumption is that, given the content of the project, the rights to most of the songs were tied-up until now. Centering on The Wrecking Crew, a group of musicians who played for such acts as The Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, and Sonny and Cher, the film contains archival footage and recordings of the musicians, plus interviews with the members including Lou Adler and Herb Alpert. Check your local theater listings for showtimes near you.

New A.I. Drama ‘Ex Machina’ Opening In Theaters This April 10th

The new futuristic A.I. film from director Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) titled Chappie is opening in theaters this March 6th, but next month, movie-goers will get to see a different kind of A.I. story that doesn’t necessarily involve revolution or all-out-war between man and machine. The new film is titled Ex Machina and comes from a script by film writer/director Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later), who also directed. Ex Machina follows the story of a young programmer, Caleb, who wins a week vacation to the company-CEO’s private mountain retreat only to find his reason for being there is to take part in an experiment involving A.I. encased in a robot resembling a beautiful human-woman. Sounds a bit reminiscent of Her with Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson back in 2013, but this time we’re dealing with an actual robot that not only brings an erie human quality to the film, but also allows for the great special-effect sequences you can see in the trailer. Starring in the film are actors Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair, The Fifth Estate), Domhnall Gleeson (About Time, Unbroken), and Golden Globe-nominee Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, A Most Violent Year). This one really looks like it will be worth the watch, so definitely consider adding it to your must-see list; in the meantime you can check out the new trailer here on MADE. The film is scheduled for release April 10, 2015.
