The guys from How Ridiculous traveled all the way to Tasmania to complete what is now the world’s longest basketball shot. The Gordon Dam sits 126.5 meters tall, who knows how long it took them to make the shot but it’s impressive none the less. Check out the video below and stay tuned for more.
Actors Robert DeNiro (Left), Ray Liotta (Center), and Paul Sorvino (Right) were all present to celebrate the Goodfellas anniversary.
This year the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City closed it’s curtains with a special showing of Martin Scorsese‘s 1990 mobster classic, Goodfellas. The film was shown in a new remastered 4K print, and to celebrate the 25th Anniversary, members of the cast, including Tribeca Film Festival co-founder Robert DeNiro (The Godfather Part II, Casino), Ray Liotta (Hannibal, Identity), Lorraine Bracco (The Basketball Diaries, The Sopranos), Paul Sorvino (The Gambler, Romeo + Juliet), and Debi Mazar (Batman Forever, Entourage) reunited at the Beacon Theatre for the special showing. Robert DeNiro introduced the film with a brief speech, noting that Joe Pesci (Home Alone, My Cousin Vinny), who won the 1990 Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Tommy, could not be in attendance. Director Martin Scorsese (The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street) and producer Irwin Winkler (Rocky, Raging Bull) were also absent, but the audience was able to view special video messages they had sent, as well as a live conversation (hosted by The Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart) with the present cast members, who discussed their personal memories of the film. But the anniversary of the film is only part of the celebration; Goodfellas was filmed (and takes place) in and around New York City, complimenting Robert DeNiro’s goal of celebrating the film heritage of New York City by founding the Tribeca Film Festival. Needless to say I think he’ll have a hard time topping himself next year!
KG….The Big Ticket…Will make his return to Minnesota soon. Those who grew up in the 90s probably have fond memories of KG in a Wolves jersey, it’s going to be great seeing him back in the Target Center.
The Timberwolves had a great All-Star weekend with 2 of their youngest stars shining bright. Andrew Wiggins won the “Rising Stars” MVP in the World vs USA game, but Zach Lavine was the one to steal the show. Zach performed 4 crazy dunks, each of which he did on his first try. Minnesotans who have had their eye on Lavine probably saw this coming, but the kid definitely shocked many. Check out a slow motion recap of his night above, the Timberwolves’ future is looking better and better.
With another NBA season behind us and the possible demise of the “Big 3” in Miami, Kevin Durant is looking at 2015 as his year to shine. With that being said, Nike has once again put together a brilliant commercial featuring none other than the man himself, KD. The visual sees cameos from Chris Mullen, Charles Oakley, George Gervin “The Iceman” and the man, the myth, Dick Gregory. Durant is definitely “The Baddest” player currently in the NBA, there’s no doubt about his lethal repertoire of moves. Check out the video above and get pumped for next year as the NBA draft continues.
It is finally official, the Minneapolis City Council has approved the latest hiring of Loring Park’s Architectural Alliance and Sink Combs Dethlegs. The two companies are teaming up to re-renovate Target Center and make it less of a soar thumb that it already is. With over $97 million being put into the damn thing, we hope to have one of the better arena’s around. Architectural Alliance is rather known throughout the MPLS area due to their work on the Guthrie Theater and TCF Bank Stadium, which are both state of the art facilities. So far, Minneapolis plans to begin construction in Spring 2015. . . Meanwhile, enjoy the traffic while you can, because it is going to be a mess.
It looks like Cleveland is trying everything to keep their fan base alive. Quince Imaging, in partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers, showed off their visual production skills in honor of Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ halftime show. Needless to say, the intro is pretty amazing. I wonder if this could be a regular thing for the Cavaliers, and quite possibly the NBA.
A few weeks back, when watching the Wolves vs Blazers game, the announcers made some remarks to the beast Pekovic’s tattoo that I had never heard before. These remarks had me doing some digging. I have always speculated about what the meaning of this particular tattoo was, and now it is clear.
The Answer: After extensive research (5mn or so), I found some sources on this. The Warrior happens to be Pekovic, and the skulls are of his enemies that he has absolutely slain in battle. The announcers of the game proclaimed, “It looks like Lopez will be the next skull added with all the others, because Lopez is getting dominated”. This has added a whole new level of respect for Pekovic and his tattoos, the guy is an absolute giant on the court, leaving him a force to be reckoned with. Pek ended up with 30pts and 9 rebounds; so watch out Lopez, you might just be the next skull.
A few weeks back rumors began swirling that Spike Lee & Ray Allen could possibly be linking back up for “He Got Game 2”. With the NBA testing out it’s “nickname” jerseys, Ray Allen saw the perfect opportunity to showcase the legendary “J.Shuttlesworth” on the back of his jersey. This again has the rumor mills spinning as many believe this is a sign of things to come, no official word on the movie yet but it sounds like it could really happen. Keep an eye out for more info as it comes in.
