Directed by Pineapple Express and East Bound & Down director David Gordon Green, the film is a dramatization of Rachel Boynton’s 2005 documentary of the same name by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Straughan (Tinkler Taylor Soldier Spy, The Men Who Stare At Goats). Bullock stars as Jane, an experienced political campaign strategist who is sent to war-torn South American to aid in the installation of a new leader, but whose efforts art threatened to be thwarted by an old political rival. New Trailer For ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Features First Appearance Of Harrison Ford And Chewbacca

Back during the Holiday 2014 season director J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Super 8) released a teaser trailer for his upcoming and long-awaited sequel to Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now with production well underway and the Christmas 2015 release date slowly (but surely) approaching, Abrams has graced us with a new trailer, revealing some impressive cinematic backdrops linking this sequel to George Lucas‘ original series, and bringing back some familiar series-faces to the screen. Making cameo’s in the new trailer is the droid, R2-D2 (who has appeared in every Star Wars film since the original in 1977), and Han Solo and his Wookie companion, Chewbacca, portrayed once again by Harrison Ford (Blade Runner, Clear and Present Danger) and Peter Mayhew (Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back). Actor Kenny Baker (The Elephant Man, Time Bandits) is also back to play R2-D2, along with Mark Hamill (Slipstream, Midnight Ride), Carrie Fisher (The Blues Brothers, When Harry Met Sally), and Anthony Daniels (Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith). Abrams co-wrote the new film with screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Bodyguard) for Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm Ltd. Fans will have to wait until December 18th, but I’m sure there will be plenty of trailers released before then to appease their appetites!

Planning Ahead: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ And ‘Star Wars 9’ Get Directors On Board

mil-fal-2 The Force Awakens.

Rumors are flying around Hollywood about directing brothers Anthony and Joe Russo stepping in to lead the upcoming two-part installment in The Avengers series, Infinity War, which will be released in 2018 and 2019, respectively, following this year’s upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. Production on the project is already expected to begin next year and carry over with filming into 2017, but there are no screenwriters officially committed to writing the film (although Captain America writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are rumored to be in talks to pen the script) and the cast will likely not be completely revealed until we see Age of Ultron hit theaters this May. There are also big rumors surrounding Disney‘s upcoming Star Wars installments with the goal being to release a new movie every consecutive year from now until 2020. J.J. Abrams is currently trying to finish production on the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Disney already has Rian Johnson (Looper, Breaking Bad) directing Episode VIII for 2017, but the new rumor is that Abrams may return to direct the final installment in the three-part series, even though he is not involved with the production on Episode VIII. Whatever the case, this is still all speculation, so we’ll have to continue to wait for more official news. Stay tuned.

SXSW Will Host Remastered Cut Of ‘The Breakfast Club’ For 30th Anniversary Celebration

club
The Breakfast Club (from left to right): Judd Nelson (the criminal), Emilio Estevez (the athlete), Ally Sheedy (the basket-case), Molly Ringwald (the princess), and Anthony Michael Hall (the brain).

Writer/director John Hughes‘ 1980s classic The Breakfast Club will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The movie will be released on Blu-Ray next week, but fans of the film will get to see a newly remastered cut at this year’s SXSW Film Festival at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, TX this March. The Breakfast Club was released in February 1985 and starred Emilio Estevez (Young Guns, The Mighty Ducks), Molly Ringwald (Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink), Judd Nelson (St. Elmo’s Fire, New Jack City), Anthony Michael Hall (National Lampoon’s Vacation, Weird Science), and Ally Sheedy (WarGames, Short Circuit) in the famous Saturday-detention story of “a brain, a beauty, a jock, a rebel, and a recluse” and how they found out they had a lot in common. Late actor Paul Gleason (All My Children, Die Hard) also starred in the movie as their high-strung teacher Richard (Dick) Vernon, with John Kapelos (Internal Affairs, Forever Knight) as janitor Carl. Since it’s release, The Breakfast Club has become an iconic symbol of the 1980s, reminiscent of the fashions, culture, and music of the time; the theme song “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Keith Forsey for Simple Minds was a Billboard Hot 100 #1 Single for 3 weeks in 1985. If you haven’t seen this one you should definitely check out the new Blu-Ray when it hits shelves next week; and if you’re attending SXSW this year, consider seeing the remastered cut on the big screen at the Paramount Theatre March 26-31st.
