Studios Lining Up Opposing Agatha Christie Biopics with Emma Stone and Alicia Vikander

Murder-mystery novelist Agatha Christie.

Same-subject movies coming out at the same time aren’t necessarily unheard of; Deep Impact and Armageddon (May and July, 1998), Dante’s Peak and Volcano (February and April 1997), Mission to Mars and Red Planet (March and November 2000), The Illusionist and The Prestige (August and October 2006). Now a new pair of movies will be joining the list, focused around the life of famous murder-mystery author Agatha Christie. Paramount has signed Oscar-nominee Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man, Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) to star as Christie during her 11 day disappearance in 1926. Sony, however, has signed Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) to star in Sony’s production, which focuses on the author’s youthful days as a pro-feminist supporter. New Coen Brothers Comedy ‘Hail Caesar!’ Opening In Theaters February 5th

The Coen Brothers are finally back on the big screen with a new comedy titled Hail Caesar!. Starring Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Iron Man 2), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Foxcatcher), Ralph Fiennes (The Constant Gardener, Spectre), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street, Moneyball) and Coen regulars Tilda Swinton (Burn After Reading, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men, Men In Black 3), and George Clooney (Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Ocean’s Eleven), the film follows a Hollywood ‘fixer’ who works for Capital Records in the 1950s and must deal with the disappearance of the studio’s biggest star before an upcoming release is ruined by the schemers behind the kidnapping. The film was co-written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen (in their usual fashion), and will be their first project together since 2013’s Oscar-nominated drama Inside Llewyn Davis with Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Carey Mulligan (Drive, The Great Gatsby), although they have written several films since then, including director Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies. The trailer for Hail Caesar! is available here on MADE. Look for it in theaters this February 5th.

First Saudi Arabian Female Director To Debut Period Drama ‘A Storm In The Stars’

Haifaa Al-Mansour, fresh off her breakthrough film Wadjda, will be moving closer into the Hollywood spotlight with a new project from writer Emma Jensen, titled A Storm In The Stars. The story follows the relationship between poet Percy Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft, who would later go down in history as Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, the author of Frankenstein. Elle Fanning will be starring in the film as Wollstonecraft, which will be produced by Amy Baer under Gidden Media with executive producers Joannie Burstein and Rebecca Miller. Fanning just appeared in Disney’s summer release Maleficent opposite Angelina Jolie, and should be a good fit for the character considering she was only 17 at the time. Filming should begin sometime in 2015, and the producers are still searching for a distributor, but with a writer, director, and star already attached, we may see filming begin even earlier than expected. Stay tuned.
