New Big-Screen Adaptation of Moby Dick Titled ‘In The Heart of the Sea’ Opening In Theaters This December 11th

A modern big screen adaptation of Herman Melville’s epic adventure Moby Dick titled In The Heart of the Sea is opening in theaters this Friday, December 11th. Written for the screen by Charles Leavitt (K-PAX, Blood Diamond) and writing team Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jurassic World), the film takes the classic tale, based on a real-life maritime disaster in the West Pacific in 1820, to new heights, utilizing stunning visual effects to show the initial series of confrontations leading up to the whale’s sinking of the Essex and the aftermath the crew had to endure in the open sea, with no ship, no food, and no fresh water. While trying to survive, the crew members begin to question both the morality of their trade and the value of life, as captain and first mate collide on their efforts to either survive, or kill the vengeance-driven whale. First Look At Upcoming Live Action Adaptation For ‘The Jungle Book’

In an age where remakes and sequels are the go-to projects for major film studios, Walt Disney Pictures is keeping itself quite busy revamping their twentieth-century animated classics into live-action thrillers for modern audiences. Their most recent project, which is now playing in theaters, is an updated version of Peter Pan (simply titled Pan) from director Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) with actors Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables, Prisoners), Levi Miller (A Heartbeat Away, Great Adventures), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy, Unbreakable), Rooney Mara (The Social Network, Her), and Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia, Ted 2). While Peter Pan is definitely one of the more famous Disney characters out there, we at MADE have our eyes fixed on next year’s big Disney release: The Jungle Book. Actor-turned-director Jon Favreau (Iron Man 3, Chef) is leading the project, which features an all-star cast including Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation, The Avengers), Idris Elba (Thor, Prometheus), Bill Murray (Ghostbusters, Zombieland), Ben Kingsley (Schindler’s List, Shutter Island), and Christopher Walken (Pulp Fiction, Catch Me If You Can), with Neel Sethi as Mowgli. The film is expected in theaters in April 2016. Check out the latest teaser trailer here on MADE. Enjoy!

Director Colin Trevorrow’s ‘Jurassic World’ Opening In Theaters This Friday June 12th

After months and months of anticipation for the long-awaited sequel to Steven Spielberg‘s 1993 classic, Jurassic World is finally opening in theaters this Friday, June 12th. Directed by Colin Trevorrow (Reality Show, Safety Not Guaranteed) from a script by himself and fellow screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (The Relic, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Derek Connolly (Safety Not Guaranteed, Monster Trucks), the film picks up on Isla Nublar 22 years after the disaster of the original movie with a new fully-functioning park that after 10 years of successful operation is losing visitors and whose directors decide to put a new attraction in-place to draw more crowds with horrific and “unforseen” consequences. Starring in the film are actors Chris Pratt (Parks & Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, 50/50), Ty Simpkins (Insidious, Iron Man 3), Nick Robinson (Melissa & Joey, The Kings of Summer), Jake Johnson (21 Jump Street, Let’s Be Cops), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Mood Indigo), and DB Wong (Executive Decision, Jurassic Park). While the special effects look pretty interesting, after having seen the latest TV-spot with Chris Pratt, the story is at risk of being extremely weak, not at all living up to the standards of the original, but I won’t jump to judge it before seeing it. You can see the full length trailer again here on MADE, then catch it on the big screen June 12th.

ted

Seth MacFarlane is currently in Boston filming his upcoming comedy sequel Ted 2, but news of some new cast members has just recently hit the Hollywood web-scene. Following their collaboration on A Million Ways To Die In The West last year, MacFarlane has confirmed that actor Liam Neeson will be playing a small part in the movie, joining actors Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Morgan Freeman. Entertainment Weekly also reported recently that John Slattery of AMC’s Mad Men will also be making an appearance in the film. Although there is no official word on the plot, Morgan Freeman has stated that he will appear as Ted’s civil rights lawyer who helps him out with some legal troubles, but thus far that’s really all we’ve heard. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters next June, so stay tuned for more news!

‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Hits Theaters This Friday

The next chapter in the Planet of the Apes reboot project from Twentieth Century Fox is coming to theaters this Friday, once again featuring motion-capture master Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) in the role of Caesar. Rise of the Planet of the Apes came out in 2011 and ended with a mutated virus spreading across the globe and beginning to wipe out mankind from existence. Now in the years after the breakout, a band of humans lead by Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight, Leon: The Professional) are heading out to wage war against Caesar and reclaim their dominant-species status on Earth. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes also features Keri Russell (August Rush, Mission: Impossible 3) and is directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield) from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Mark Bomback. Amanda Lindhout’s ‘A House In The Sky’ Being Produced At Annapurna Pictures

amanda

Amanda Lindhout was abducted by a rebel terrorist group in Somalia back in 2008, and was held prisoner for 460 days before she successfully pulled off a risky escape attempt that involved converting to Islam and being prepped for an arranged marriage by her captors. She then wrote a book about her experience with co-author Sara Corbett called A House In The Sky, which made The New York Times Bestseller List and which will now be made into a feature film by Annapurna Pictures with Rooney Mara (The Social Network, Her) set to star in the film. Annapurna’s Megan Ellison will be producing the project, which is still without a writer or director, but with a star already involved in the production, it shouldn’t take long to fill these positions. Stay tuned for more!

Amanda Seyfried To Take Lead Female Role In ‘Ted 2’

ted

Seth MacFarlane’s big screen directing debut about a talking, pot-smoking, beer-guzzling teddy bear was a huge hit, and Ted had people talking about a sequel almost immediately. The Family Guy creator wrote the film and provided the voice of Ted alongside stars Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. The director is now preparing to film Ted 2, with Mark Wahlberg returning and newcomer Amanda Seyfried taking the lead female role. Mila Kunis may or may not be back for the movie, but that hasn’t been confirmed since the script apparently doesn’t involve her character in a major part. MacFarlane is wrapping up work on another comedy project that also featured his new star Amanda Seyfried. The upcoming comedy is a western spoof called A Million Ways To Die In The West, and is scheduled to hit theaters this May. Universal has set the release for Ted 2 for June, 2015. In the meantime you can watch the trailer for A Million Ways To Die In The West here on MADE.

Avatar Sequels Confirmed For 2016, ’17, and ’18

avatar

James Cameron took the movie world to new limits when he released Avatar to audiences back in 2009. The first movie to be filmed specifically for IMAX, Avatar’s special effects and cinematography won the respective awards at the Oscars back in 2010, and also won two Golden Globes for Best Director (James Cameron) and Best Picture. The film set a new standard for making special effects movies with modern technology, much in the same way as George Lucas did with Star Wars in 1977. Following the success of Avatar, Cameron started planning out a series of sequels for his cinematic adventure, which will now be hitting theaters Lord of the Rings-style starting in December of 2016.

man-candy-monday-sam-worthington

Actors Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana recently confirmed they would be returning for the three sequels, which will be filmed back-to-back in New Zealand and are being written by screenwriters Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno. As I understand it Friedman and Salerno will be writing the first and final sequel separately, and Jaffa and Silver will be collaborating on the middle installment, but as of now there are still no details or hints regarding the plot of any of the three movies. Not to worry, though; James Cameron never keeps fans waiting for a movie that isn’t worth seeing. The director is co-writing all three movies with his screenwriters, and is behind some of the most memorable and successful projects in Hollywood, including The Terminator, Titanic, Aliens, and The Abyss. With all that experience I think it’s safe to say that fans have nothing to worry about; they just have to play the waiting game, which is nothing new to fans of Cameron.
