With the film already in production, and an eighth installation that will take place in Egypt currently being prepped, Fast and Furious 7 is well underway. Jason Statham and former UFC champion Ronda Rousey have already joined the cast, but recent rumors of Kurt Russell taking on a role seem to have been dismissed. Instead Djimon Hounsou will be joining the cast, although the details on his character and role in the plot are still uncertain. Hounsou got big notices back in 2000 when he co-starred alongside Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. He also received an Oscar nomination in 2007 for Best Supporting Actor in Blood Diamond. Fast & Furious 7 is set to be filmed in Los Angeles and will be directed by James Wan, who wrote and directed Saw (2004) and has a reputation for directing horror movies. Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, and Tyrese Gibson will all be reprising their roles in the upcoming sequel, which has been slated for release sometime next year.
