The Last Jedi may be doing well at the box office, but it’s not doing much to impress fans and critics. One holiday release that’s been impressing everyone, however, is director Ridley Scott’s adaptation of author John Pearson’s All the Money in the World. The film follows the 1973 kidnapping of Jean Paul Getty III, aka Paul Getty, the grandson of oil tycoon Jean Paul Getty. The latter famously refused to pay his grandson’s ransom, despite his vast fortune in the oil industry, leaving the former’s mother, Gail Harris, in the position of having to convince her billionaire in-law to put family ahead of wealth. All the Money in the World has already received three Golden Globe nominations, including one for Best Supporting Actor, Christopher Plummer. Although his nomination is certainly deserving, it almost didn’t happen. Continue reading →

Indeed Brewing has always been supportive of the Twin Cities’ music scene sponsoring and even throwing a wide variety of events every year. Their upcoming event at Icehouse features an amazing lineup in Black Diet, PHO, and Ayvah. The show will serve as a reunion for Black Diet, who ruled the local festival circuit and critic’s picks lists between 2014-2015. PHO has established itself as a band that never disappoints, and Ayvah is one of the Twin Cities’ more promising up and coming artists. Anyone in attendance will enjoy heavy doses of soul, funk and R&B, from 3 great live performers. This one is 21+ and the tickets are available in advance for only $10 ($15 @ door), click the link below to buy yours now before this one sells out.
Danish menswear brand, SOULLAND, recently posted the official pics of their upcoming collaboration with Nike SB. The two companies have created a pair of SB Dunk Lows and Highs set to release on Friday, December 15th. The kicks are super clean, utilizing white suede and leather with subtle blue accents, the detail bestowed upon these sneaks is unmatched. The wait is over! Fans of the Star Wars saga are flooding movie theaters across the country today as The Last Jedi makes its nationwide debut. Following 2015’s The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi picks up roughly 30 years after the events of 1983’s Return of the Jedi, and finds a new band of heroes struggling to defeat the evil First Order. But unlike The Force Awakens, which was written and directed by JJ Abrams, The Last Jedi takes on a much darker tone, diving further into character backgrounds and bringing to light the tragic fate of Luke Skywalker and his failed Order of Jedi Knights. That means fans will get to see much more of Mark Hamill in the new film but, given the untimely death of Carrie Fisher, can also expect to see some beloved characters get killed off in the telling. Thus far most critics are hailing writer/director Rian Johnson‘s installment in the series, which is said to be entirely his own, despite what Abrams may have set up with in the previous film. Although The Last Jedi is expected to launch with a worldwide box office haul of roughly $425 million, it will likely not be enough to match the North American Box Office earnings record for 2016. Darren Sipity is one of Minnesota’s better pure MCs with a propensity for quick witted wordplay and slick metaphors. A few days back he sent us his new track “Shinaab Faces” which came as a pleasant surprise. Produced by Musikal, Sipity rides the laid back instrumental with heavy doses of introspection, reminiscing about times passed. A good one to kick back and roll one up to, check out “Shinaab Faces” above and stay tuned for more from Darren Sipity.
Nazeem & Spencer Joles have had an excellent year. Between releasing one of Minnesota’s best projects of of the year “Years of Obscurity,” playing Soundset and then Summer Set; it appears that they’ve found their formula for success. The duo recently took to Twitter to release the visual for their standout track “Holy Goat.” Dark and gritty, the visual does a great job of embodying the song’s sound. Imagery bordering the occult, the video is one of the duo’s best to date, it’s obvious that these two are just getting warmed up. Check out the video for “Holy Goat” above and be on the look out for more from Nazeem & Spencer Joles.
