Arvell Genius recently released his debut EP, MYDVYZVRE#, a sonic exploration of self and an observation of the world around him. A member of SPVCE, the crew is known for their top notch production, all of which is done in house; MYDVYZVRE# is a perfect example. Arvell’s cryptic, often introspective observations sound schizophrenic at times, the vocal mixing adds to this feeling on tracks like “Assasssment” and “Loop.” At just under 20 mins, MYDVYZVRE# is a dense project that warrants multiple listens. Check it out above and stay tuned for more from Arvell Genius.

Over the last year or so, we’ve grown quite fond of Lubi, the 18 yr old artist currently making waves out the Twin Cities area. His most recent offering comes in the form of quick loosie titled “FIVE.” The WEST1NE produced instrumental is laid back and piano driven, as Lubi heaves bar after bar, the record begins to transform with more sounds being layered. Lyrically Lubi possesses a prowess beyond his years and it appears that he is becoming more comfortable with his own sound. “FIVE” is a solid example of Lubi’s abilities as a pure MC, check out the record above and stay tuned for more from Lubi.

The homie Finding Novyon took to Twitter last week to release his debut album, That’s My Dawg. The budding Minneapolis artist has continued to be a fixture within the Twin Cities hip hop scene, 1 part of the newly formed So Cold Records, he looks to ride the momentum into 2018. From someone who has seen Novyon work from a relatively unknown artist, into one that is leading his peers; That’s My Dawg feels like the culmination of all that hard work. Everything learned along the way, all of the progress and preparation seems locked into this body of work, a testament to just how far the kid has come. Tracks like “Kiss The Sky” and “Get Involved” further illustrate his aforementioned work ethic, while records like the Allan Kingdom assisted “Tall Hills” take the listener for a carefree journey. The few features on the album are deliberate and well placed, another sign that That’s My Dawg is a cut above your average release. Although there is no doubting that Finding Novyon has a lot more room for growth and a lot more hard work ahead, That’s My Dawg stands out among his projects as defined, something that signals his upward trajectory. Peep That’s My Dawg above and make sure to stay tuned for more from Finding Novyon.

The bar scene in Minneapolis is currently undergoing a huge transformation. Chic rooftops and trendy lounges have began popping up everywhere leaving a stark contrast in many of the city’s neighborhoods. Take Mortimer’s for example, a sleepy, game filled “Dive” with 3 separate bars and TV’s everywhere vs. Moto I; a swanky Japanese style sake brewery and lounge (yes it has a rooftop). Both of these places are awesome in their own way and for separate occasions, but if I’m just trying to knock back a couple of brews, I’m taking Mortimer’s all day. Serving up some damn good burgers, cheese curds and 2 for 1 drinks just about all day; Mortimer’s is a great place to kick back and watch the Vikes or simply get wasted for the low (Pregame!!). All in all this place is a cool bar with crazy drink specials and awesome games, if you’re looking for a chill place to have a brew in Uptown; look no further.
(P.S: This place attracts patrons of all types, beware some are less than cordial)
