Noteworthy Entries From This Year’s Berlin Film Festival

The 67th Berlin Film Festival, better known as Berlinale, kicks off each year shortly after the Sundance Film Festival ends, and continues with an impressive line-up of independent films, ranging from comedy to drama and even science fiction. This year the festival closed with the premiere of James Mangold‘s R-rated comic entry Logan, which will see the last outing of Hugh Jackman as the immortal and tormented Wolverine, opposite Patrick Stewart reprising the role of Professor Charles Xavier. In addition, director Danny Boyle‘s long-anticipated follow-up to Trainspotting also debuted at the festival, and saw the original cast return for a look at how the characters are dealing with the realities of life 20-years after the drug-induced original. The festival also played host to a solid line-up of independent films. Unfortunately we’re not able to afford the trip (or take the time off) to make it to Berlin for the 10-day celebration, so this all based on reviews and speculation, but here are just a few noteworthy entries we figured were worth mentioning… Continue reading

With tour season on the down swing, PROF, Finding Novyon, Metasota, and Willie Wonka are wrapping up their tour throughout most of the western U.S. A monster lineup that is sure to put on a good show in any given city on any given night, the “Time Bomb” tour is a great chance for out of state fans to get familiar. Dre Day 2017 @ Uptown VFW

Dre Day 2017 is upon us with Minneapolis’ version going down at the newly renovated Uptown VFW. If you’re unfamiliar with Dre Day, the event pays homage to the legendary producer with covers of his music, as well as performances from local artists. This year’s event will feature RP Hooks, Tek, BdotCroc, Carnage The Executioner, and Chance York among others. ‘A Cure For Wellness’ Now Playing In Theaters Nationwide

Director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Rango) has teamed up once again with cinematographer Bojan Bazelli (Rock of Ages, Pete’s Dragon) for a new thriller titled A Cure for Wellness. The story follows a young business executive who is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from a mysterious wellness center isolated in the Swiss Alps and comes to suspect that the center, although renowned for its miraculous (if not unconventional) treatments, is not all it’s made out to be. Leading the cast are actors Dane DeHaan (Lawless, Kill Your Darlings), Jason Issacs (The Patriot, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), Mia Goth (Nymphomaniac: Volume II, Everest), Ivo Nandi (Sons of Anarchy, Boardwalk Empire), Adrian Schiller (Bright Star, The Danish Girl), Celia Imrie (Nanny McPhee, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), and Harry Groener (Patch Adams, Road to Perdition). Love Daze Volume 3: Rich Garvey Minneseries

The homie Rich Garvey will continue his month long minneseries at the Nomad with part 3 tomorrow. This week’s event will feature performances from No Good Neighbors, Blamsiss, Kwey, and Kaleem The Dream among others. “Alexander DopeDeal” Release Party

Mike The Martyr released his latest project Alexander DopeDeal a few weeks back, and will take over the Uptown VFW tomorrow for it’s official release party. The event will also feature performances from Savage Randy of SPVCE and Axel Foley, not to mention a bunch of special guests. DJ Tiiiiiiiiiip will hold down the 1s & 2s, while Franz Diego handles the hosting duties. This one is 21+ and the door is $10, click the link below for more information.

GYM “Low Noise Vol. 1”

Minneapolis artist, GYM, took to Twitter yesterday to release his new mixtape Low Noise Vol. 1. Obviously hinting at more to come, the 5 track project breezes by at just under 20 mins. GYM really seems to be establishing his sound while continuing to push new boundaries. Check out Low Noise Vol. 1 above for yourself and be on the look out for more from GYM.

Bobby Raps – Desensitized

Bobby Raps hasn’t given us much by way of singles as of late, but the kid has been ALL over the place including a credit for co-writing/producing The Weeknd’s chart topping single “Starboy.” Raps recently took to Twitter releasing a new, self produced track titled “Desensitized.” On this one it’s business as usual, Raps’ growth into a professional is apparent on all levels.
