The 67th Berlin Film Festival, better known as Berlinale, kicks off each year shortly after the Sundance Film Festival ends, and continues with an impressive line-up of independent films, ranging from comedy to drama and even science fiction. This year the festival closed with the premiere of James Mangold‘s R-rated comic entry Logan, which will see the last outing of Hugh Jackman as the immortal and tormented Wolverine, opposite Patrick Stewart reprising the role of Professor Charles Xavier. In addition, director Danny Boyle‘s long-anticipated follow-up to Trainspotting also debuted at the festival, and saw the original cast return for a look at how the characters are dealing with the realities of life 20-years after the drug-induced original. The festival also played host to a solid line-up of independent films. Dre Day 2017 is upon us with Minneapolis’ version going down at the newly renovated Uptown VFW. If you’re unfamiliar with Dre Day, the event pays homage to the legendary producer with covers of his music, as well as performances from local artists. This year’s event will feature RP Hooks, Tek, BdotCroc, Carnage The Executioner, and Chance York among others. Director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Rango) has teamed up once again with cinematographer Bojan Bazelli (Rock of Ages, Pete’s Dragon) for a new thriller titled A Cure for Wellness. The story follows a young business executive who is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from a mysterious wellness center isolated in the Swiss Alps and comes to suspect that the center, although renowned for its miraculous (if not unconventional) treatments, is not all it’s made out to be. Minneapolis artist, GYM, took to Twitter yesterday to release his new mixtape Low Noise Vol. 1. Obviously hinting at more to come, the 5 track project breezes by at just under 20 mins. GYM really seems to be establishing his sound while continuing to push new boundaries. Check out Low Noise Vol. 1 above for yourself and be on the look out for more from GYM.
Bobby Raps hasn’t given us much by way of singles as of late, but the kid has been ALL over the place including a credit for co-writing/producing The Weeknd’s chart topping single “Starboy.” Raps recently took to Twitter releasing a new, self produced track titled “Desensitized.” On this one it’s business as usual, Raps’ growth into a professional is apparent on all levels.
