Forgive me for I have sinned. As exciting as 2016 has already been, I’ve let a few projects slide through the cracks. A few days ago the kid Gaines dropped his new project Reanimation for all of our listening pleasure. With a variety of high profile releases earlier this month, I’ll be the first to say that Reanimation stands on it’s own. Gaines gives many perspectives throughout the project steering clear of gimmicks and frills, his music contains a certain genuine property that resonates well with the listener. Tracks like “Hangover,” “The Fallen,” and “No Regrets” show a lot of versatility, Gaines is definitely an artist to keep your eye on as 2016 heats up. Check out Reanimation below and stay tuned for more from GainesFM.
Location: 318 N 1st Avenue N, Minneapolis When: Friday, January 29th @ 8PM

The Coen Brothers are finally back on the big screen with a new comedy titled Hail Caesar!. Starring Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Iron Man 2), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Foxcatcher), Ralph Fiennes (The Constant Gardener, Spectre), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street, Moneyball) and Coen regulars Tilda Swinton (Burn After Reading, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men, Men In Black 3), and George Clooney (Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Ocean’s Eleven), the film follows a Hollywood ‘fixer’ who works for Capital Records in the 1950s and must deal with the disappearance of the studio’s biggest star before an upcoming release is ruined by the schemers behind the kidnapping. The film was co-written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen (in their usual fashion), and will be their first project together since 2013’s Oscar-nominated drama Inside Llewyn Davis with Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Carey Mulligan (Drive, The Great Gatsby), although they have written several films since then, including director Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies. The trailer for Hail Caesar! is available here on MADE. Look for it in theaters this February 5th.
This weeks beer goes out to Surly’s ninth anniversary release, appropriately titled NEIN. The Imperial Smoked Dunkelweizen was inspired by Surly’s head brewer, Todd Haug’s trip to Bamberg, Germany. The bottle, which you may recognize, also features the familiar Erica Williams intricate artwork.
I’m not one to over hype, but this beer is absolutely a must try. This might possibly be my personal favorite from the highly sought after brewery. Brewed using hefeweizen yeasts and oak-smoked wheat – this beer evolves with every sip. You might taste cocoa, vanilla, banana, and smokey wood, to name a few. This beer is insanely complex, yet so balanced. Seriously, sitting at 10%ABV, I could hardly taste a drop of alcohol. If you come across one sitting on the shelf, please do yourself a favor and purchase a bottle and enjoy.
Character actor Abe Vigoda passed away earlier this week at the age of 94. According to his daughter, Carol Vigoda Fuchs, the actor died peacefully and had not been suffering from any illnesses. Vigoda spent years working in the New York theater scene before he was cast as the mafia hitman Sal Tessio in Francis Ford Coppola‘s The Godfather. Following the huge success of The Godfather, and The Godfather Part II, Vigoda was cast as Detective Phil Fish in 1975 on the show Barney Miller, which ran until 1982 and earned Vigoda three Emmy Award nominations in 1976, 1977, and 1978 respectively. Ironically enough, the announcement of his death re-sparked an old controversy about whether or not the actor was still alive: a false report stating that Vigoda had died was published in 1986, igniting a controversy among movie-goers and fans as to whether or not the actor was really still alive or had actually died. A website dedicated to Google searches for ‘Is Abe Vigoda really dead?’ was updated this week to respond ‘Yes.’ Regardless of his questionable death status, Vigoda’s roles and contributions to film will be remembered by his co-stars like Al Pacino (Serpico, Heat), Robert Duvall (Apocalypse Now, The Judge), and Hal Linden (Barney Miller, Out To Sea). Abe, you will be missed!
