Nike SB is planning to kick 2016 off with a bang, they recently announced the release of a new dunk low dubbed the “Bigfoot.” One look at the shoe proves the name is no fluke, brown suede sits atop a tan sole (not an actual gum sole) making for a safe, but clean colorway. Not too many concrete details regarding these, but word around town is these can be expected on shelves in mid-January.

New Drama ‘Joy’ With Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper Now Playing In Theaters

A new drama featuring recurring co-stars Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, American Sniper) titled Joy is now playing in theaters nationwide. The two stars are again directed by writer/director David O. Russell (American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook), in the story of Joy Mangano, the woman who invented the Miracle Mop and became the matriarch of her family business and dynasty, but not before she encounters betrayal and treachery on her way to success. Also joining the two co-stars is their third recurring co-star Robert DeNiro (Goodfellas, Casino), with actors Edgar Ramirez (Vantage Point, The Liberator), Diane Ladd (Chinatown, Christmas Vacation), Virginia Madsen (Sideways, Firewall), and Isabella Rossellini (Fearless, Enemy). This is the fourth consecutive film in four years that Lawrence and Cooper have starred in together, and the third that also features DeNiro in the supporting cast. Lawrence and Cooper first appeared together in Silver Linings Playbook (which featured DeNiro) in 2012, and then American Hustle (DeNiro had a small part in this feature) in 2013, followed by Serena in 2014, and now Joy for 2015, which once again features DeNiro. This is also the third outing for director Russell with all three actors appearing in the featured cast, and according to the stars, we can expect even more to be forthcoming! Some may be frowning at the fact that these actors continue to appear in the same films, but their on-screen chemistry is excellent and all of these features have been Oscar and/or Golden Globe contenders, with the exception of Serena. Coupled with the fact that Russell is an original storyteller, I personally am hoping to see more features from this team of talented filmmakers, but we’ll have to wait for further updates to know for sure. Stay tuned!

New Drama ‘Concussion’ With Will Smith Now Playing In Theaters

The new drama titled Concussion with Will Smith (Independence Day, Men in Black) is now playing in theaters nationwide. Smith stars as Dr. Bennett Omalu, the pathologist who discovered CTE after studying pro-football players and the longterm effects of receiving multiple concussions from standard game play. Writer/director Peter Landesman (Parkland, Kill the Messenger) wrote the film to explore Dr. Omalu’s discovery and the attempts of the National Football League to keep it all under wraps, based on a GQ article titled Game Brain by Jeanne Marie Laskas. Co-starring in the film are actors Alec Baldwin (The Departed, The Good Shepard), Albert Brooks (Taxi Driver, A Most Violent Year), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights, Jupiter Ascending), and David Morse (The Green Mile, The Hurt Locker). Minneapolis’ DIY scene took a big hit earlier this year when the Sound Gallery (studio) closed down, but the void was quickly filled by a whole cast of other locations. Among the many, The Creek has thrown a couple of notable events in the past few weeks, one being last Saturday’s event with 612Collection. Alibastor Jones’ opening set laid the groundwork for what would end up being a great time. The night also featured performances from Lucien Parker, Nazeem & Spencer Joles, Mike The Martyr, KAS, and Drelli among others. A good event to cap off 2015, if you happened to miss out we’ve got you covered with some pics above.
