A few days ago, Chicago natives MC Tree & Chris Crack dropped a new visual for their track “Chicken Pocks”. The duo continue to build upon their chemistry since the release of their collaborative project, TreeSwag, earlier this year. The video follows the two as they cruise the dark streets of Chicago, speaking on their past influences and their ability to hurdle the obstacles that were presented. Their “Soul-trap” sound is definitely catching on, check out the video above and make sure to peep their new Tree+Crack EP if you haven’t already.

By Spring, rumors about the Pangaea album were already swirling as singles began to leak from within Toki and Big Cat’s vault. The above track “Echinacea” dropped like a bomb, instantly creating a bigger blip on the radar for their upcoming album. An early glimpse at what was to come, this track is still one of our favorites; check it out above.
For #3 on our list of the “Top 14 Albums of 2014”, we’ve selected Toki Wright and Big Cats’ album Pangaea. Back in September, the buzz for the project was absolutely through the roof, with great performances from Toki and his band all throughout the summer. I remember receiving this project a week before it’s release date, the first time I pressed play I listened to it in it’s entirety, this RARELY happens. By the time I was half way through, I was already pondering the idea of Pangaea as 2014’s top album. Everything about this project is great, the production, the overall message, the vibe, the lyrics, the vocals, and especially it’s ability to translate so well in a live context. Toki Wright & Big Cats were already highly esteemed, but the release of this project further solidified both artists. After selling out Icehouse for Pangaea’s official release party, one couldn’t help but feel like they’d witnessed history. As we enter our top 3, keep in mind that this could have easily been #1; check out Pangaea below and be on the look out for more.

This year’s New Year’s Eve is looking like one for the record books with more than enough fun to go around. In addition to the dance party in First Ave’s mainroom, “Naughty” NYE will be hosted by Lizzo with sets from Tickle Torture and TAWST (Shannon Blowtorch x Sophia Eris). If you’ve ever been to 7th Street Entry than you know how nuts this party is going to be. This one’s 18+ and unfortunately tickets are already sold out, if you’re dying to go you’ll have to surf Craigslist or Facebook for a chance. You probably will have to pay more than the original $20 price, but if you happen to snag tickets you’re definitely in for a great time.
A little over a year ago, RP Hooks dropped the visual for his tracks “Moses Majestic” & “All Black Jesus”. Directed by Nicholas Perez, the dark imagery matches up perfectly with Hooks’ sound. For those immersed in Minneapolis’ hip hop scene, RP Hooks’ album All Black Jesus definitely peaked an interest. A solid debut project followed by yet another gem, this video separated Hooks from most other artists in the Twin Cities. Check out the visual above and stay tuned for more.

The Neon Icon, RiFF RaFF will be sliding through Minneapolis for New Years Eve in a few days. If you were at RiFF’s last show in Minneapolis, you probably saw him bumbling and stumbling drunkenly around the stage, at one point he even punched a fan in the face (accident?). Hopefully this time RiFF RaFF brings his A game, because the last show was definitely a disappointment. This one’s 18+ and tickets are on sale now for $35, if you want to go big you can snag VIP tix for $50, and if you want to go all out you can grab the “Neon Icon” package for $250, click the link below for more info.
