The Bay Area has seen a resurgence in 2014 and many would point towards G-Eazy when naming a front runner. Eazy was already buzzing hard before the release of These Things Happen and now he’s easily selling out each stop on tour. The show will also feature Bay legend E-40, Iamsu! and Jay Ant, rounding out what should be a good time. Both nights are already sold out a full month ahead of the date, people looking to catch E-40 or G-Eazy in Minneapolis will need to opt for Craigslist or Facebook. Tickets for the Chicago date are still available for $40, click the link below.
Back in March of 2014, we featured the Dallas producer’s EP Obstacles. Yesterday, CRTZ dropped a fresh new instrumental titled “Everyday”. The laidback beat pumps out heavy bass while the faint vocals echo deep into the eardrums. This beat bangs, and CRTZ is definitely onto something here with “Everyday”.
Last year Minneapolis hosted the annual “Downtown Throwdown”, passing the torch to Boston for this year’s event. With sponsors like Adidas, LIB Tech and Snow Boarder the contest continues to grow year after year. Minnesota was definitely in the building as Ryan Paul and Jesse Paul (both Minnesotans) took 1st & 2nd respectively with Ted Borland placing 3rd. With Ryan taking home the $20,000, you can expect to see him making a few moves heading into the snowboarding season. Check out the video above and stay tuned for more.
With the 30th Anniversary of director Robert Zemeckis‘s (Forrest Gump, Cast Away) classic time-travel tale Back to the Future coming up next year, plans are starting to be made to mark the celebration. Variety recently reported plans by IMG Artists and the Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency to showcase the film alongside a live orchestra that will play the classic soundtrack by Alan Silvestri as the film progresses. The first performance will be held in Switzerland this coming May with the 21st Century Orchestra, with additional performances pending in worldwide locations. Zemeckis, working with producer Steven Spielberg, released Back to the Future in July 1985 and the film skyrocketed up-and-coming actor Michael J. Fox to movie stardom. It won the 1986 Oscar for Best Sound Effects Editing and was also nominated for Best Screenplay, Best Sound, and Best Original Music. IMG and Gorfaine/Schwartz performed a similar service for the Star Trek anniversary this year, but seeing as Back to the Future will appeal to a much larger audience across the generation gaps, this one is sure to be just as, if not more, popular. Universal Pictures is also most likely preparing some kind of celebration but that has yet to be announced, so we’ll keep looking out for more news.

DJ Frank Castle recently dropped a new 21 track beat-tape entitled eVolvER and the record’s pretty dope. Although a lot of the tracks are short, I feel that it enhances the tape with it’s far ranging use of sounds and influences. From the slow yet spazticly (not a word) grooving “Novacane”, to the dance-hall esque “Lttce March”, DJ Frank Castle does a good job mixing everything into one whole. Frank Castle will be spinning at Nomad tonight for Beasthead’s final residency as well, so check out eVolvER below and head out to Nomad if you’re looking for something to get into.
