Auggie The 9th – PILLL (Video)

Time to wake the fuck up. You may remember us posting about the release party for the above video at Jugrnaut, now we have the video for everyone who couldn’t make it. Directed by Frago Films, “PILLL” starts off in an eerie manor with an aggressive amount of drug consumption leading into a hard trip. As the beat drops, you already know what time it is. Auggie’s ultra-hype style is all over this track and the visual captures it perfectly. I’d hate to be dude in the alley. It appears the Legion is on fuckin fire right now, everyone is dropping dope shit; peep the visual above and keep an eye out for more from Auggie the 9th & the L.O.D.

James Franken “Springing Forward”

As the city of Minneapolis’ Hip Hop scene continues to grow, St. Paul has began to emerge with it’s own wave of new talent on the rise. Among artists like Bobby Raps, Allan Kingdom and the guys from Egotic Records; we’ve began to notice a kid by the name of James Franken. Vogz originally put me on, then a few days ago his new album Springing Forward was sent our way. Upon listening I was quite surprised, we get a lot of sub-par music and this was definitely far….far from some of the BS that immediately hit’s our Recycle Bin. The album’s production is air tight with guys like Frankie Bash, Alejandro P and Prim.Cuts all offering up some ill instrumentals. James is no slouch either, his flow is something from yesteryear, precise and calculated with substance to go along. Peep the tape below and make sure to keep your eye on this kid, you’re sure to hear a lot more from him soon.

[MADE] Brews of the Week

I am not sure why it has taken this long to try the beloved Deschutes Hop in The Dark. The American Black Ale is absolutely a must buy, and I hope that if you come across a bottle, purchase it.

This American Black Ale hits nearly every part of palate, as it is full of flavor. The beer itself sits at a nice 6.8% Alcohol by Vol, making for a medium body overall. Each sip serves the tongue with a mixture of fruits, citrus, chocolate and piney hop notes, giving it a bit of a surprising experience (but great). Cascade hops happen to be one of my personal favorites, and this could be why this one sits so well.

Oscura, is made from Wisconsin’s Furthermore Brewing Co. This beer and brewery are rather unique in general. Just a few days ago I picked up a single with the hopes of a coffee stout, but man was I way off.

The beer itself is brewed as a California Common/Steam beer. For those who don’t know, it is simply a American style lager which is often brewed with a specific lager yeast made for warmer temps. So, you can easily see why I was thrown off by assuming this coffee “lager” was a stout, because this is very uncommon. The overall texture and taste comes off like a normal brew, but yet finishes with a decently strong coffee flavor, which overrides much of the hop/malt flavors. This coffee lager is a one of a kind, and is done absolutely perfect. Keep your eyes open for a six pack, this brew is delicious.

Soundset Mega Cypher w/ Slug, P.O.S, Metasota, Carnage & More

Legendary host and hip hop guru, Sway; recently set up his Sway In The Morning radio show at Fifth Element resulting in some ill shit. You may have seen the Toki Wright x Greg Grease x Allan Kingdom interview/freestyle, now we bring you the mega cypher. Rhymesayers was definitely in the building offering up some of the city’s best MCs for this one. In order of appearance: Slug, P.O.S, Muja Messiah, Lioness, Metasota, Carnage, Joe Horton and MaLLy all dish out some nice bars off the top. In my opinion, Metasota, Lioness & Carnage shine the brightest, but that doesn’t take away from anyone else; they all did their thing.

Roberto Orci Will Make Directing Debut With Star Trek 3 In Place Of J.J. Abrams

Following the successful reboot of the Star Trek franchise from director J.J. Abrams with 2009’s Star Trek and last year’s Star Trek: Into Darkness, many fans of the series were extremely concerned when Abrams took up the opportunity to direct Star Wars: Episode 7 with Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher, fearing that he would not be able to return for a third Star Trek movie. Well their worst fears have officially been confirmed, as Paramount recently announced that Roberto Orci would be taking over directing duties for Star Trek 3. Although Orci is no stranger to the Star Trek series (he co-wrote the first two movies with Alex Kurtzman), Star Trek 3 will be his first major picture as a director, so the fans, and especially Paramount, may be a bit anxious to see how the third installment turns out. Orci is currently working on the script with screenwriters J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Here’s wishing him the best of luck in his new endeavor!

Manny Phesto – Rabbit Hole Ft. Greg Grease (Video)

Manny Phesto dropped a new visual today for his track “Rabbit Hole” off of his latest project Southside Looking In. The video was directed by Alan De Leon Taverna and features some trippy visuals. Shadow puppets provide the scene while a kaleidoscope like effect provides a vibrant backdrop. Both Manny & Greazy put forth a pair of dope verses while Mike The Martyr hits us again with another dope beat. Definitely one of our favorite tracks from Southside Looking In, peep the video above and check out Southside Looking In below if you haven’t yet.
